The Team

The Postgrad Institute team is made of groups of individuals with various skill sets. We have a number of experienced academics who collectively have successfully supervised numerous Masters and PhD students.

We have experienced editors and English language experts to ensure that proposals, research reports, dissertations, and peer-reviewed journal and conference submissions are of the highest standard of quality. The team also includes a number of statisticians - who are also academics and who are proficient in ensuring the quality of the data collection process, both qualitative and quantitative.

Irene Popela

Ms. Popela worked in both South Africa and Germany as an IT specialist. She holds a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, a Master of Information Technology from the Vaal University of Technology, Vanderbijlpark and she was part of the young vocational programme offered by the Baden Wurttemberg, Germany. Ms. Popela's vocational programme with Hochschule Aalen, Germany included extensive research in Information systems, Databases, Comparative business systems, Electronic business strategy systems.

Ms Popela has worked in a range of sectors including areas of IT Specialization, Head of research, Project Management, Business Analysis, Quality Assurance, Curriculum and Content Design, Training and Development, facilitation and teaching, research mentorship and leadership, moderation, and supervision. Her supervision areas include big data analytics, machine learning, Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Cloud technology, Digital Mobile computing, IT management and leadership.

Ms. Popela is currently completing her doctorate in Information technology, where she focuses on Big Data and its application to solve practical problems.

Dr Stephen Akandwanaho

Dr Akandwanaho has thirteen years of experience in teaching and research. He has worked in various institutions of learning, and in various roles in academia. He is currently working with Richfield Graduate Institute of Technology.

His research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning (Neural Networks), Global optimization for combinatorial problems (Evolutionary algorithms), Hyper-heuristics, Cyber-security, Big Data Analytics and e-learning. He serves as an editor for four journals and a reviewer for many reputable journals.

Dr Akandwanaho has strong competencies and extensive experience in Curriculum Review and Programme Development, Scholarly Research and Teaching. He has taught a number of courses, such as Programming (C-Sharp, Java, VB), Cyber Security and various information technology programmes.

Lecturer (Department of Classics), Senior lecturer (Department of Jurisprudence), Associate Professor in the Department of Jurisprudence, Professor in the Department of Jurisprudence, Head of the Department of Jurisprudence, Unisa. In addition I also taught at the University of Natal for three years after resigning from Unisa.
